With over 35 years of experience as a musician, including live performance, studio recording and session work, Rob brings a broad musical perspective to every project. He holds a degree in music and has taught for more than 30 years, developing extensive expertise in music theory, songwriting, arrangement, artistic coaching and production.
As well as being an experienced drummer, Rob is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, with skills spanning guitar, bass, keyboards, programming and arrangement. This combination of musical knowledge, technical experience and creative understanding allows him to help artists develop their ideas and transform them into polished, fully realised productions.
Rob offers several studio services, tailored to the needs and ambitions of each artist and project.
Remote drum tracking
For : artists, songwriters and producers who need professionally performed and recorded acoustic drums without having to book and attend a full studio session.
Clients send Rob their song, demo or guide track, together with any references or instructions they may have. Using his own professional studio setup, recording equipment and many years of experience as a drummer, Rob develops and records a drum performance that serves the music and meets the needs of the production.
The part can be closely based on a programmed guide or clearly defined request, or Rob can use his musical judgement to create something appropriate for the song. The feel, energy, level of complexity, sound and stylistic direction can all be discussed beforehand, ensuring that the performance fits naturally with the rest of the track.
Once the direction has been agreed and the performance recorded, Rob delivers clearly labelled, aligned multitrack drum files that can be imported directly into the client’s session. Standard delivery includes the individual dry drum tracks, giving the artist or mix engineer maximum control over processing and balance. If required, Rob can also provide an edited or processed version, or a stereo drum mix, by prior agreement.
This service provides the feel, detail and musical interaction of a real drummer, recorded in a controlled studio environment and available wherever the artist is working.
In short : the client sends Rob the song and a brief; Rob records the drum performance in his studio and returns the individual tracks.
Recording and Mix Engineering
For : bands and artists who already have a clear artistic direction and need an experienced engineer to turn that vision into a finished recording.
This service covers the technical production of the music, from the recording session through to the final mix. Rob works with each artist to plan the session, set up the studio, select and position the microphones, establish the right sounds and record every part with care. Once recording is complete, he edits and organises the material where required before mixing the track to create a balanced, powerful and coherent result.
Rob’s role in this service is primarily that of recording and mix engineer. He helps the artists achieve their strongest performances and makes informed technical decisions throughout the session, while respecting the arrangements, sounds and artistic direction they bring to the project. He may offer practical suggestions where they will improve the recording, but the creative identity of the music remains firmly in the artists’ hands.
This is the right option for bands and artists whose songs and arrangements are already established and who need someone to record them professionally, manage the technical process and deliver a polished final mix.

Mixing
For : tracks that have already been recorded and now need to be brought together into a professional final mix.
Clients can send Rob individual audio tracks recorded at another studio, through a home recording setup, as part of a remote collaboration or during a multitrack live recording. He organises and prepares the session, cleans and edits the material where agreed, then shapes the balance, tone, space, dynamics and impact of the music.
Mixing is where the separate elements become a unified listening experience. It involves much more than adjusting volume levels : it is about creating clarity without losing energy, giving each instrument an appropriate place, controlling frequencies and dynamics, building depth and dimension, and directing the listener’s attention throughout the song.
Before starting, Rob discusses the artist’s intentions, priorities and any reference tracks in order to understand the desired sound and atmosphere. He then mixes the material while remaining faithful to the performances and production decisions already present in the recordings.
This service is ideal for artists who are happy with their recording and arrangement and do not require full production or additional tracking, but need an experienced and objective pair of ears to transform their existing multitracks into a cohesive and polished mix.

Full Production
For : artists who want a creative partner as well as an engineer.
Full Production includes the complete recording and mixing service, but with a much deeper level of artistic involvement. Rather than simply recording an existing arrangement, Rob works closely with the artist to develop the track and shape the final result from the earliest stages of the project.
The process can begin with pre-production : listening closely to the song, discussing references and influences, identifying its strengths and deciding what the recording needs in order to communicate its full potential. Depending on the project, this may involve developing the structure, arrangement, instrumentation, dynamics, tempo, feel, transitions, textures, vocal presentation or the way the song builds and evolves.
During recording, Rob guides the overall direction of the production and helps make creative decisions about performances, sounds and instrumentation. During the post-production stage, where appropriate, he can also contribute additional musical parts, including drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, programming or backing vocals, or help organise other musicians when the production requires them.
The process continues through editing and mixing, with every decision serving the same artistic objective. The aim is not merely to produce a technically accomplished recording, but to create a distinctive and emotionally convincing finished track that reflects the artist’s identity.
Full Production is a collaborative process. The artist’s identity and intentions remain at the heart of the music, while Rob brings an outside perspective, production experience and practical ideas to help transform the song into a fully realised record.

Prices include two revisions and delivery of the agreed final files. Every project is different, so the final price will be confirmed after discussing the track, the number of musicians and recordings involved, and the requirements of the production.
Reduced rates may be available for EPs, albums and projects involving several tracks.
